I have always been an engineer, I just didn’t know it til I was 30.
I grew up wanting to change the world. I thought the best way to do that was through media. I went to USC film school and graduated with a degree in film production. After ten years of a successful career in filmmaking I found I wasn’t having the kind of impact I had hoped. Dozens of crises were and still are headed for us as a species. I felt powerless to stop them.
In 2019, together with my family, I built a giant peacock art car out of my grandma’s ‘99 civic. Check out the podcast about that here. That experience of designing a physical product, building and assembling it, and all the problem solving involved, awakened in me a latent love for engineering. Looking back on my life it seems obvious to me now this is what I was always meant to do. I played with LEGOs til I was way outside the recommended age group. In fifth grade I invented a way to turn on and off my light switch from my bed. I excelled in Physics and Math, taking 11 AP classes in high school. I want to be part of the coming green revolution, perhaps helping to produce renewable energy, make society more efficient, or reducing waste and pollution in manufacturing.
I was blessed to grow up in the Pacific Northwest, just across the Columbia river from Portland, Oregon. I play guitar and the drums. I fly drones and sometimes crash them.
